France's Foreign Ministry Responds to Aliyev's Harsh Statements
As previously reported, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev commented on remarks made by French President Emmanuel Macron during an interview with France 2 television. It is worth recalling that Macron accused Russia of inciting clashes between Armenia and Azerbaijan and "playing Azerbaijan's game." Aliyev responded to Macron's statements by claiming that the French government has erased the history of Paris's friendly and balanced attitude towards Baku.
The French Foreign Ministry reacted to Aliyev's statements concerning Macron and France: "Aliyev’s remarks in no way alter France's full support for the establishment of peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan. It is thanks to the President's commitment that the quadrilateral meeting held on October 6 within the framework of the first summit of the European Political Community with Charles Michel, President Aliyev, and Prime Minister Pashinyan was possible. This meeting provided an opportunity for progress, which is reflected in the declaration adopted on this occasion. France also fully supports the ongoing process with the EU to initiate negotiations on a peace treaty between the two countries," the statement from the Foreign Ministry said.
