If Russia Strikes Ukraine with Nuclear Weapons, Will France Use Nuclear Weapons? Macron Responds
French President Emmanuel Macron stated in an interview with France 2 television that France would not use nuclear weapons against Russia if the country strikes Ukraine with nuclear force. This situation does not align with the principles of France's nuclear doctrine.
"Our doctrine is based on the fundamental interests of the nation, which are clearly defined; this is a policy of deterrence," the president said.
When asked by the journalist whether this means that France would not respond to Moscow with nuclear force, Macron replied, "obviously."
