We Have Full Understanding: Volodin on Meeting with Alen Simonyan

The Chairman of the State Duma commented on the meeting with the Speaker of the National Assembly, Alen Simonyan, saying, “We have full understanding; this is a good basis when the peoples relate to each other with goodwill, and there are no disagreements. At the state level, we need to use this to develop our relations. For this, further new steps must be taken.”

Volodin noted that it is necessary to activate cooperation through political factions and the relevant committees of the State Duma of the Russian Federation and the National Assembly of Armenia. “We need to create conditions so that our peoples benefit from this,” he stated.

According to Volodin, special attention should be given to cooperation within the parliamentary framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. He also noted the stable development of economic ties between Russia and Armenia, highlighting positive trends in the tourism sector. According to him, the volume of trade between Russia and Armenia from January to July 2022 amounted to $2 billion, which is a 47.7% increase compared to the same period in 2021.

Alen Simonyan stated that Armenia and Russia have long been connected by friendly close relations and believes that dialogue between the deputies of the National Assembly and the State Duma needs to be activated. “We are in a historical period where much is changing in the world. We must honorably navigate these challenges,” Simonyan remarked.

He also proposed initiating discussions on regional security issues within a parliamentary format involving Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan. Vyacheslav Volodin supported the proposal.
