US Citizen Raped Behind 'Parvana' Restaurant: Report

The Investigation Committee of Armenia has initiated a criminal case under the provisions of Article 138, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code in the Malatia investigative department of Yerevan.

According to shamshyan.com, the criminal case was opened based on the report from Arminé M., a 25-year-old US citizen, on May 27.

She reported to the Malatia police department that on the same day, around 4:00 AM in the Hrazdan Gorge, behind the 'Parvana' restaurant complex, a driver of a Hyundai had sexually assaulted her against her will using violence.

Employees of the criminal investigation department of Malatia police, led by department headarmen Meloyan, carried out necessary operational intelligence activities, identifying and locating the suspect, who was then taken to the Malatia police department.

The suspect, a 32-year-old resident of Yerevan named Samvel K., has been arrested. The investigator has ordered several examinations, including forensic medical examinations.

Note: The suspect in the alleged crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the law as stipulated in the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia by a legally adjudicated court decision.
