Kopirkina on the Incident at the Sotk Mine
Russia is interested in ensuring that the Sotk mine operates normally and without interruptions, said Sergey Kopirkina, the Russian Ambassador to Armenia, during a briefing with reporters today, commenting on the intense gunfire from the Azerbaijani side towards the mine on May 7.
“The parties should refrain from actions that could escalate the situation and create a risk of escalation. Our approach to all similar incidents is determined by this stance. We are interested in the mine operating normally and without interruptions. This is very important for the Republic of Armenia from a social perspective as well,” emphasized the Russian ambassador.
It should be noted that on May 7, around 13:50, units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces opened fire with various caliber firearms on the Armenian military positions located in the eastern direction of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, as well as towards the Sotk gold mine. As a result of the actions of the Azerbaijani side, one of the mine's employees sustained a gunshot wound.
