Putin Has Miscalculated in His Assessments: Scholz's Statement
The sanctions imposed on the Russian Federation will not be lifted as long as the Kremlin has not signed a peace agreement with Ukraine. This was stated by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in an interview with Reuters, indicating that Ukraine must dictate the terms of peace.
Scholz explained that Russian President Vladimir Putin miscalculated when he assumed that the sanctions would be short-lived. “He did not plan his entire operation in Ukraine to the end. He did not think that Ukraine would resist so strongly. He did not expect that we would support them to withstand for so long... We will not lift the sanctions until he agrees with Ukraine,” Scholz said.
