Aliyev on Russian Peacekeepers: 'There Were Some Tense Moments'
"The trilateral statement on the ceasefire in Karabakh indicates the exact number of the Russian peacekeeping contingent and its five-year stay. If one of the parties decides that the five-year term is sufficient, they must officially notify six months in advance. I think this is a very positive factor for understanding the future configuration." This statement was made by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during a meeting with participants of the international conference titled 'South Caucasus: Development and Cooperation.'
According to him, the situation in Artsakh, where Russian peacekeepers are deployed, has been 'generally stable' over the past one and a half years.
"It is true that there were some tense moments. But now the situation is stable. The relations between Russian peacekeepers and Azerbaijani servicemen are at a good level," the President of Azerbaijan stated.
