Baku Presents Key Conditions to Promote Peace Treaty with Armenia
Azerbaijan has handed over a five-point document to Armenia for the normalization of relations, which "includes the principles of the Helsinki agreements." This was stated by Hikmet Hajiyev, assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, in an interview with TRT World.
"We have presented the fundamental principles of the peace treaty to the Armenian side, a potential peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan. These are formulated based on the norms and principles of international law and serve as a basis for friendly relations.
If you (referring to Armenia) want to establish friendly relations, everything starts with the first and most important decision: Armenia and Azerbaijan must recognize each other's territorial integrity, sovereignty, and inviolability of borders, as well as refrain from the use of force and threats against territorial integrity," Hajiyev said.
"Armenia must put an end to these territorial claims against Azerbaijan, and only after that can we move forward," he emphasized.
Hajiyev also noted that Turkey is beginning to establish diplomatic ties with Armenia.
"We support this process, but at the same time, we endorse the simultaneous and parallel development of two tracks of this process: the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, as well as the resolution of Turkish-Armenian relations," said the presidential assistant.
