Three Scenarios for the End of the War: An American Expert's Prediction
Since the invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops, there are three scenarios for the future development of events. This was stated by American journalist-expert Thomas Friedman, according to The New York Times.
According to the prediction, the first scenario is the most brutal. The other two are milder but less likely:
First Scenario
The expert believes that if the West fails to stop Putin, he will go to the extent of erasing Ukraine from the face of the earth. This scenario could lead to the scale of military crimes that Europe has not seen since the Nazi era.
“The modern globalized world has never had to deal with a leader accused of such levels of war crimes, whose country will be one of the largest suppliers of oil and gas in the world and will have the largest arsenal of nuclear warheads,” writes Friedman.
Second Scenario
Economic sanctions against Russia will come into effect, and both sides will be forced to make compromises. “In exchange for a ceasefire and the withdrawal of Russian troops, the eastern enclaves of Ukraine, which are currently de facto under Russian control, will officially be transferred to Russia, and Ukraine will publicly promise to never join NATO. The U.S. and its allies will agree to lift all recently imposed economic sanctions against Russia,” writes the expert.
According to the expert, this scenario is unlikely as it would require Putin to essentially admit that he could not realize his vision of Ukraine’s reintegration.
Third Scenario
The least likely scenario is that Russians will rise up and overthrow Putin.
“Thousands of people are already taking to the streets to protest against Putin’s crazy war. They are doing this at the risk of their safety. A mass movement could eventually bring an end to Putin’s rule,” noted the expert.
