Reports of Domestic Violence Cases Have Increased
Reports of domestic violence cases in Armenia have increased. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Armen Mkrtchyan during a press conference summarizing the results of the first half of 2026.
According to him, the rise in domestic violence cases last year and during the first six months of 2026 is primarily due to the fact that more victims are turning to the police. "This indicates a positive phenomenon, that there is confidence in the police, and victims are reaching out more often than in the past," Mkrtchyan stated.
The deputy minister noted that there are certain issues in the fight against domestic violence, including in the judicial system. He mentioned that these issues are being presented to the prosecutor's office and other partners in the law enforcement system.
According to Mkrtchyan, legislative proposals are also planned to be presented in the near future.
He also addressed the statistics on road safety, stating that the number of fatalities from road accidents in Armenia has been decreasing for the past 2.5 years. "For already 2.5 years, the number of fatalities caused by traffic accidents has decreased in the Republic of Armenia; this is a significant achievement, and this work style should be continued and maintained," the deputy minister said.
He highlighted that the Patrol Service continues to develop and plays a role not only in traffic safety but also in detecting crimes. The deputy minister spoke about the work of the criminal police, emphasizing the need to prevent and detect crimes online. He stated that the police should also utilize digital and technological tools.
Mkrtchyan announced that a cyber laboratory would soon be established in Armenia. He noted that this would enhance the effectiveness of combating internet and digital crimes.
