In preparation for the 2026-2027 academic year, August consultations have begun. These meetings involve directors of public schools, administrative and economic system representatives, directors of preschool and extracurricular institutions, as well as heads of regional pedagogical-psychological support centers.

The consultations are led by Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Araksia Svajyan. The first meeting was held in Yerevan. Svajyan presented the results of the previous academic year and the main tasks for the new academic year. Special attention was paid to the implementation of the state standard for general education.

Changes are also expected in the field of project-based learning. In primary school, each student is required to complete at least one project during the year. In high school, at least one project is also anticipated from subject-specific targeted programs.

“We must not forget that project-based learning is not just event planning,” noted Araksia Svajyan. According to her, what is important is the knowledge and skills that the student acquires as a result of the project.

New subjects will be introduced in 5th and 10th grades. As a result of changes to the state standards for general education, “Healthy Lifestyle” will become a separate subject in the 5th and 10th grades. Additionally, “Safe Living” will be taught in the same grades, primarily with a practical focus. Students will learn how to act correctly in emergency situations and what skills are necessary to survive in such scenarios.

In the 11th grade, “Safe Living” is planned to be organized in the format of a summer camp.

Changes are coming for the second semester for 12th graders. One of the important issues discussed was the attendance of 12th graders, which becomes particularly noticeable in January after entrance exams.

It is planned to organize more project works, group activities, and volunteer opportunities for 12th graders in the second semester. Students can earn credits for participating in these activities. The deputy minister also emphasized that schools must adequately prepare students for entrance examinations, gradually reducing the need for private tutoring.
