Photos: The New Metro Station Will Be Named 'Renaissance'. Details.
The Russian company 'Metrogiprotrans' is set to construct Armenia's first multifunctional cable-stayed bridge over the Hrazdan River. This was revealed by Leonid Borzenkov, the chief architect of 'Metrogiprotrans', in an interview with Sputnik Armenia.
According to the proposed project, a double-level metro bridge is planned for both trains and vehicles. A pedestrian pathway is also included in the plans. The vehicle section will feature four lanes (two in each direction), while the pedestrian pathway will run along both sides of the bridge.
The working name of the bridge has already been revealed as 'Renaissance'. This symbolizes the revival of the Armenian metro system and beyond. The bridge is expected to connect both sides of the Hrazdan gorge, meaning another route will be established that links the central part of the city with the peripheral administrative districts. The main thoroughfare's traffic will be significantly alleviated.
Borzenkov emphasized that engineering solutions must primarily take seismic conditions into account, and during construction, the key criterion will be the building's stability and safety. The architect plans to use not only modern materials but also traditional Armenian construction materials such as tuff, travertine, and others.
As for the timeline for the project's implementation, Borzenkov finds it difficult to make any predictions as the company currently lacks sufficient data. Much will also depend on hydrogeological conditions and the metro development program. There is still no clarity regarding the color solutions for the metro station and the bridge itself.
