Afghanistan Will Not Be Democratic, Sharia Laws Will Rule: Taliban Spokesman

Waheedullah Hashimi, a senior representative of the Taliban movement, has stated that Afghanistan will not be a democratic country following the Taliban's rise to power. As reported by Armenpress, citing TASS, Hashimi made these comments in an interview with Reuters.

According to the Taliban representative, the country will be governed by a council of Taliban leaders. “There will not be any democratic system, as there is no basis for that in our country. We will not debate what political system Afghanistan needs, because the answer to that question is clear: Sharia laws,” Hashimi told Reuters.

Hashimi also noted that under the new regime, Afghanistan's top leader will be the Taliban's supreme leader, Haibatullah Akhundzada. In his position, Akhundzada will rank higher than the head of the Taliban council, a position Hashimi compared to that of a president.
