Gold License Plates Have Sold Out: Eight New Letters to Be Issued for Vehicle Registration

The government has made amendments in its session today, June 24, concerning the "Criteria for Issuing High-Demand Vehicle Registration Plates" decision to allow for the issuance of new letter registration plates.

The need for this decision arises from the fact that the demand for acquiring high-demand registration plates is continuously decreasing, since the plates containing letters specified by the existing decision have nearly sold out.

Accordingly, in addition to the letters "A", "C", "D", "F", "G", "L", "M", "N", "O", "P", "Q", "R", "S", "T", "U", "V", "X", and "Z", the letters "B", "E", "H", "I", "J", "K", "W", and "Y" can also be used for issuing registration plates.

It is expected that this change will significantly increase revenues for the state budget. With the release of new registration plates using the eight new letters, the total projected revenue is expected to reach 73,702,576,000 AMD, while the expenditure will be 2,093,007,904 AMD.

If the decision is adopted, the demand for acquiring high-demand registration plates is anticipated to rise.

The government has also approved a draft law on amending the law on "Ensuring Traffic Safety," which has been developed in response to the necessity of implementing the Prime Minister’s instruction from April 13, 2021, regarding establishing a reasonable period for exercising the right of priority to use high-demand registration plates.

Thus, a person who has received priority right to use high-demand registration plates, upon selling their vehicle, will have a longer time (instead of 1 year and 6 months) to reclaim and utilize the plates, thereby avoiding financial losses from having to pay again for new (or the same) high-demand plates or obtaining a regular or other paid plate.
