NATO Launches Major Military Exercises in the Baltic Sea
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has commenced its largest international naval exercises, Baltops 2021, today. According to TASS, the exercises are taking place in the Baltic Sea.
Baltops 2021 will continue until June 18 and will be conducted in two phases. A total of 40 naval units, 60 aircraft, and about 4,000 military personnel from 16 NATO member countries, as well as Finland and Sweden, are participating in the exercises.
The exercises began in the Danish straits. It is noteworthy that for the first time in the history of the Alliance, the exercises will include the development of defensive tactics in the event of cyberattacks.
It should be recalled that Baltops exercises have been held annually from May to June since 1971.
