Pashinyan Confirms Russian Troops Deployed Near Artsakh Borders, Within Armenian Territory: RIA Novosti
The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, has confirmed that Russian border guards are deployed at the border with Artsakh, explaining that there is nothing extraordinary about this. He noted that Russian military personnel had previously been stationed at the country’s borders with Iran and Turkey, and also in the south due to recent escalations.
During an interview with Pablo González, a journalist from the Spanish EFE agency, Pashinyan was asked to comment on purported images of Russian soldiers circulating on social media allegedly from the Artsakh region. “This is not a new development. Russian border guards have been stationed at the Armenian borders with Turkey and Iran. This has been the case as always. And now, following the latest developments, Russian border guards are also deployed at Armenia’s southeastern and southwestern borders. Therefore, there is essentially nothing new in this,” Pashinyan responded.
The Prime Minister's press service confirmed to RIA Novosti that the interview was recorded on October 20. However, this segment was not included in the final version published by EFE, though González showed it to a correspondent from RIA Novosti. The journalist also posted Pashinyan's quotes on his Twitter account.
