Yerevan Couple Steals $40,000 from Armenian Citizen on Los Angeles-Moscow Flight
A couple has been arrested at Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport on suspicion of stealing $40,000 from a female passenger on a Los Angeles-Moscow flight. According to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, they hid the stolen money in their sports shoes and inside the pockets of their jackets.
Reportedly, the Armenian citizen, a woman, approached the security department at Sheremetyevo Airport requesting assistance in locating her bag, which contained $40,000. She had left her bag on the aircraft operating the Los Angeles-Moscow flight. The police searched the plane but found nothing.
During operational-investigative activities, a couple from Yerevan, who were seated next to the victim, came under suspicion. Flight attendants noted that the neighbors of the bag's owner remained in their seats for some time after she exited the aircraft.
“The suspects were soon identified and arrested while checking in for their flight to Armenia. The woman was having difficulty moving, citing health issues; however, it was revealed that banknotes hidden in her sports shoes were hindering her mobility. The second portion of the money was retrieved from the inner pocket of the husband’s jacket,” the press service reported.
A criminal case has been initiated under the article concerning “Theft of Particularly Large Amounts.”
