Kazbegi Checkpoint Closed: People and Vehicles Evacuated to Safety

Following a decrease in dangerous factors, the Kazbegi customs checkpoint will resume its operations in normal mode and full capacity. The Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance has announced that in cases where dangerous factors diminish, the Kazbegi customs checkpoint will continue its work at full capacity, following standard procedures.

According to the service's information, all customs control processes at the Kazbegi checkpoint were suspended due to the activation of the alarm system operating in the Devdoraki gorge. Currently, it is not possible to carry out the import and export of goods across the Georgian customs border or to proceed with the customs control procedures for individuals crossing the state border at this checkpoint.

The Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance reports that the alarm system installed in the Devdoraki gorge has been activated, which led to the high-precision system immediately sending an alarm signal to the Kazbegi customs checkpoint. For the purpose of ensuring safety, coordinated work with the relevant state departments has resulted in the evacuation of employees at the checkpoint, as well as all representatives of the patrol police and border police present at the site, various company employees, trucks, passenger vehicles, their drivers, and passengers to a protected and safe area. It is reiterated that all types of customs control procedures have been suspended at the Kazbegi customs checkpoint. Import and export of goods across the Georgian customs border, as well as customs control procedures for individuals crossing the state border at this checkpoint cannot be performed.

In the event of a decrease in dangerous factors, the Kazbegi customs checkpoint will resume operations in normal mode, ensuring uninterrupted capacity for passengers and cargo,” the statement emphasized.

It is noted that according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a signal was received from the early warning system installed in Devdoraki, which detects changes due to minimal increases in flow, resulting in the evacuation of citizens present at the site, as well as the personnel from the patrol police and customs service working at the Dariali checkpoint to a safe location.
