TRIPP is a Geopolitical Bomb Under Armenia: Levon Zurabyan

The Vice President of the Armenian National Congress, Levon Zurabyan, has stated that the Armenian authorities are once again lying about a critical issue for the country. In a post, Zurabyan noted that the authorities are deceiving the public regarding a decisive matter.

According to him, Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi, the senior adviser and chief assistant for military affairs to Iran's Islamic spiritual leader Mojtaba Khamenei, has made statements regarding TRIPP, accusing the Armenian side of distorting Iran’s position.

Refuting statements made by the chairman of the National Assembly's Foreign Relations Committee, CP's Targis Khandanyan, he asserted that there are no preliminary agreements concerning TRIPP with Armenia, and there is neither a real mutual understanding nor common ground. Iran has openly and clearly expressed its red lines, and therefore the Armenian MP’s statement does not reflect reality.

Safavi added that just as Iran opposes the U.S. presence in the Persian Gulf, it cannot support their presence in the South Caucasus. The region and its border security are viewed as a unified whole, and this project, in its current format, poses a threat to Iran. Negotiations are ongoing; however, if the responsibility for security is transferred to American military personnel, Iran reserves the right to take countermeasures.

Zurabyan noted that the Armenian National Congress has long warned about the risks associated with the implementation of TRIPP, proposing the implementation of an alternative project TRIPP+BRICS. He emphasized that the current situation is assessed as a strategic defeat for the U.S. in its war against Iran, while the authorities are attempting to conceal their own recklessness, as was the case in 2020 and 2023.
