Illegal Logging Incident Uncovered
On February 18, Gegharkunik Province police discovered a man responsible for the illegal felling of 17 pine trees in the region on the same day. According to Shamshyan.com, police, based on operational information, identified 46-year-old Gagik Ohanjan from the village of Astghadzor as the individual who illegally cut down these trees from the administrative territory of the Sevan National Park.
The police took him into custody at the Martuni police station, where he confessed under pressure of evidence that he had personally cut down the pine trees and transported them in his Opel vehicle with license plate number 35 PX 278. At the crime scene, he pointed out the trees that he had illegally cut down.
A criminal case has been initiated against him under the provisions of Article 296, Parts 2 and 3 of the Armenian Criminal Code at the Martuni Investigation Division of the police. According to sources, the criminal case has been transferred to the Investigative Division of Gegharkunik Province, while the vehicle has been placed in a secure area of the Martuni police station.
