Ankara Responds to US Senate's Approval of Turkey Sanctions Bill

The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has responded to the US Senate's approval of sanctions against Turkey. In a statement released on this occasion, it was noted that the legislative body of the United States is damaging efforts to normalize Turkish-American relations.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry characterized the language directed at Turkey in the Senate-approved bill as hostile, according to Ermenihaber. The Ministry's statement highlighted that by excluding Turkey from the joint production program of F-35 fighter jets and calling for sanctions against Turkey due to the S-400 systems deal, the Senate demonstrates its hostile stance and disrespect towards the decisions made by the Turkish sovereign state.

Regarding the lifting of the arms embargo against Cyprus, the statement mentioned that such a decision would undermine efforts aimed at resolving the issue on the island and would pose a risk of dangerous escalation.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry also emphasized that threats and sanctions cannot force Turkey to abandon measures aimed at ensuring national security. According to the Ministry's characterization, all these statements are directed against Turkey, and Turkey will take appropriate measures in response.
