16 Injured in Accident on Garni Road

A major traffic accident occurred today, June 9, in the Kotayk Province. According to Shamshyan.com, around 3:30 PM, a collision took place on the Geghard road in the village of Garni between a ZIL truck driven by 31-year-old Edward Martirosyan, a resident of the village of Gohht, and a tourist bus Mercedes driven by 38-year-old Edward Barskyan, a resident of Yerevan.

As a result of the collision, the ZIL truck veered off the road and ended up in a private garden, overturning. The truck was loaded with sand. The driver, Edward Martirosyan, was hospitalized with injuries at the St. Grigor Lusavorich Medical Center.

The road remains closed, and it is still unclear who is at fault for the accident. Traffic congestion has formed as the accident occurred on the main road leading to Geghard.

Tourists from the Republic of Korea were on the Mercedes bus, en route to Geghard. According to reports, 15 citizens of the Republic of Korea sought medical assistance at Yerevan's M. Heratsi University Hospital.

The police are currently preparing materials regarding the incident.
