«Hraparak»: Nikol Pashinyan to Withdraw Candidacy
«Hraparak» newspaper writes that in anticipation of the upcoming congress of the "Civil Contract" party on June 15, the new charter and program are already prepared.
Unlike the current charter, the election of the chairman of the board is reserved not for board members but for the congress itself. Does this change mean that the most acceptable candidate for the position within the CP delegation will be Nikol Pashinyan? We asked Vahagn Hovakimyan, the coordinator of the new charter development and a parliament member.
“No, in fact, the prime minister himself has withdrawn his candidacy several times over the years when it was put forward,” he stated. Will he do it again this time? “Yes, he has repeatedly spoken about his position,” Hovakimyan added.
According to some sources, the most likely candidates for the chairman position are Suren Papikyan and Arayik Harutyunyan. Hovakimyan noted that the technical change in the election procedure of the chairman is conditioned by the “Law on Political Parties”: “The new regulation provided by the Law on Political Parties requires that the congress must elect the chairman of the board.”
