Volodya Frangulyan Becomes Silver Medalist in Kyiv
Armsport reports that freestyle wrestler Volodya Frangulyan (65 kg) has become a silver medalist at the 23rd memorial tournament dedicated to renowned Ukrainian wrestlers and coaches, held in Kyiv. This information was announced by the official website of the Armenian National Olympic Committee.
In the final, the Armenian wrestler competed against Gorr Oghannessian from Ukraine and lost early, with a score of 0:11. On his path to the final, Volodya Frangulyan triumphed over Turkish wrestler Tolga Akyuz (2:0), Ukrainian Andrey Sviridin (2:2), and Belarusian Artsen Krauchanka (2:1).
The Armenian national team in freestyle wrestling also included Vaghik Matevosyan (57 kg), Varuzhan Kajoyan (74 kg), Hovhannes Mkhitaryan (86 kg), Sargis Hovsepian (97 kg), Arman Mkrtchyan (97 kg), and Andranik Galstyan (125 kg), all of whom faced defeats.
57 kg wrestler Vaghik Matevosyan won his qualifying match 12:1 against Belarusian Masha Hasanova, but lost 3:8 in the quarter-finals to Georgian Lasha Lomtatze.
74 kg wrestler Varuzhan Kajoyan lost 3:4 in the round of 16 to Ukrainian Denis Pavlov.
In the 86 kg category, Hovhannes Mkhitaryan started with a victory over Georgian Zaur Beradze (1:1), but lost 6:9 in the quarter-finals to Moldovan Andrian Grosulin.
In the 97 kg category, Arman Mkrtchyan lost 4:10 in the qualifying round to Ukrainian Artem Hasenkoy, while Sargis Hovsepian won his match against Ukrainian Lubomir Sagaliuk (5:0) but lost 0:6 in the quarter-finals to Georgian Zuriko Urtashvili.
125 kg wrestler Andranik Galstyan lost 0:11 in the qualifying round to Polish Robert Baran, who secured a place in the finals.
On May 12, Andranik Galstyan will fight for the bronze medal. The Armenian team traveled to Kyiv under the leadership of head coach Habetnak Kurginyan, accompanied by team coach Edgar Yenokyan and referee Gevorg Harutyunyan.
