Kotayk Governor Sues Facebook User for 68 Posts
Armenia's Kotayk region governor Romanos Petrosyan has stated:
“Important:
Under Article 14 of the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia, human dignity is respected and protected by the state as an inalienable basis for rights and freedoms.
According to the first clause of Article 1087.1 of the Civil Code of the Republic of Armenia, a person whose honor, dignity, or business reputation has been damaged through insult or defamation may file a lawsuit against the person who caused the insult or defamation.
Based on the above, I have filed a lawsuit in court yesterday, based on substantiated facts consisting of 68 instances that contain obvious elements of public defamation and insult, within the framework of the law, to restore the damage caused to my honor and dignity, thus also requesting the Court to oblige the respondent:
- To apologize to me for the insulting posts regarding me published on their Facebook page, specifying the manner of announcing it.
- To compensate me for the non-material damage caused by the insulting and defamatory posts at the maximum limit set by Armenian legislation, which will be directed towards the resolution of an issue in one of our region's subordinate schools.
- To resolve the issue of court costs by final judicial act.
Note: My lawsuit contains 68 instances... this means that there are people after the revolution whose only or main occupation has been slandering me and my work for months, spreading misinformation and defamation, often through baseless insults and false accusations.
I am ready to listen to any objective criticism regarding my or my team's activities, and I am also open to any constructive suggestions that arise from healthy criticism, but at the same time, I will continue to strongly counter any campaigns directed against me using manipulative technologies and/or my own or other paid media resources with the laws and legal acts of the Republic of Armenia that protect every citizen of Armenia.
Reforms in Kotayk are unstoppable, and against this backdrop, we will achieve a significant increase in the quality of life in the shortest time, creating all the necessary conditions for a dignified life for the citizens of the Republic of Armenia in Kotayk.”
