180 Drones Destroyed in Moscow Region, 620 Drones Flew Towards the Area Overnight
From the evening of August 17 to 5:00 AM Moscow time on August 18, 620 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) flew toward the Moscow region, of which 180 were destroyed within the area. This was reported by Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin.
“Emergency services are working at the sites where debris has fallen,” he noted.
During the night of August 18, Sobyanin provided periodic updates on the destruction of drones flying towards Moscow. At 2:30 AM, he reported the downing of six UAVs, followed by another seven at 2:50 AM, ten at 3:00 AM, and 40 at 3:30 AM. By 4:00 AM, an additional ten drones were destroyed, nine at 4:20 AM, and four more at 4:30 AM.
Due to the drone attacks, flight restrictions have been imposed at Moscow's Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky airports. Sheremetyevo Airport is conducting flights in coordination with relevant authorities.
Previously, Sobyanin reported that from the evening of August 15 to 6:30 AM on August 16, 600 drones flew towards the Moscow region, with 201 being shot down in the metropolitan area. According to Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov, 187 drones were destroyed in the Moscow region that night. There were casualties in the area of the Moscow Ring Road and in Podolsk as a result of the attacks.
