Trump Suggests Greenland Could Be Under U.S. Control by End of Term

In an interview with "Real America's Voice," U.S. President Donald Trump effectively acknowledged that by the end of his second term, Greenland could be under "U.S. control." Host Steve Gruber reminded Trump of his "prediction" regarding the island's future, stating that by the end of Trump's term, Greenland would come under "our operational control."

"Yes, you would be right to bet on that. Greenland is very important from our perspective, not Denmark's," Trump remarked. When the host suggested placing a bet on such a development, the president responded, "Sure."

In early July, upon arriving at the NATO summit in Ankara, Trump expressed his desire for U.S. control over Greenland. In response, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen emphasized that the kingdom is committed to defending "every inch" of NATO territory, including Greenland.

Greenland was a Danish colony until 1979 when it gained limited self-governance. In 2009, the island obtained autonomy but continued to remain part of the kingdom. Trump first floated the idea of buying Greenland during his initial presidency. Since returning to the White House, he has regularly asserted that the island should be transferred to U.S. control. The leadership of Denmark and Greenland has rejected that proposal.
