Meloni Makes Urgent Announcement: Italy Tightens Border Regime

The Italian government has decided to temporarily suspend the freedom of movement regime for maritime and air connections with Spain under the Schengen Agreement and to restore border control. This was announced by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

“Italy is introducing temporary border control at the border with Spain due to the crisis in Ceuta,” she stated.

Previously, it was reported that Macron announced that France is deploying troops, aircraft, and drones to the border with Spain due to the migration crisis in Ceuta.

It is noteworthy that Spain has returned about 37,500 of the more than 60,000 migrants who arrived in Ceuta from Morocco.

Earlier, the city’s mayor had reported that approximately 60,000 illegal migrants had infiltrated the Spanish city of Ceuta from Morocco in a single day.
