UEFA is looking to remove Gianni Infantino from the FIFA presidency and is searching for his replacement, according to Politico.

Swiss national Gianni Infantino has led FIFA since 2016 and could be re-elected for another term next year. However, the publication reports that European football officials want to challenge him, with Qatari sports executive and president of French club Paris Saint-Germain, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, being considered a potential candidate for the FIFA presidency.

The publication refers to Al-Khelaifi as the “most influential figure in European football.” He is 52 years old and, in addition to overseeing PSG, he also heads the European Club Association and is the chairman of the beIN Media Group.

An official representing Al-Khelaifi stated that he has “absolutely no aspirations, intentions, or interest in holding any position in FIFA.” Sources from the publication suggest that Al-Khelaifi’s candidacy could garner support among Europeans, with the main challenge being to persuade him to accept it.
