“Over the course of about six months, we have laid off 40-50 employees. A disciplinary investigation has been conducted against around 30 employees. As a result of the investigations, we have returned more money collected through additional charges than was returned previously,” stated Karapetyan, addressing the violations recorded in HEC.

According to him, the company has been aware of the issues regarding underreporting and additional charges since the very first day of acquiring HEC. “One subscriber's consumption has been understated, while another's has been overstated. HEC has not benefited from this,” noted Karapetyan.

He added that the main solution to the problem is the installation of “smart” meters. For this purpose, a corresponding production has been established, and currently, around 700,000 subscribers receive their electricity bills based on “smart” meter data.

“About 300,000 subscribers still do not have such meters, which keeps the risk of additional charges intact. When you install a 'smart' meter, additional charges are excluded,” stated Karapetyan, characterizing the claims regarding additional charges as “irresponsible political statements.”
