Russian Government Extends Fuel Export Ban

The Russian government has imposed a new temporary ban on the export of gasoline, diesel fuel, and other types of fuel until January 31, 2027. The ban will be in effect from August 1, 2026, to January 31, 2027. However, starting from September 1, the restrictions will not apply to diesel and marine fuel exported by direct producers, as well as to gas oil.

Fuel exports from Russia will be permitted under intergovernmental international agreements, as well as for humanitarian aid purposes, according to a government decision. Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak announced that the ban on gasoline exports will be extended for both producers and companies not engaged in fuel production.

Since spring, several regions of Russia have faced fuel supply issues. The Kremlin has stated that all levels of government are working to resolve the situation. In early July, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law aimed at ensuring that the domestic market is supplied with gasoline and diesel fuel. On July 22, Putin remarked that the difficulties in the Russian fuel market are of a temporary nature.

According to calculations by RBC, the complete or partial restrictions on fuel sales have affected 80 regions of Russia during June and July. Since early July, these restrictions have begun to be relaxed, and by mid-month, regional authorities reported an increase in supplies.
