Khamenei has not been seen in public since the attack that led to the deaths of his father and several military leaders at the start of the war, and he himself sustained serious injuries. Sources indicate that U.S. intelligence has not yet succeeded in visually confirming his whereabouts.

This uncertainty is due partly to Khamenei's avoidance of electronic means of communication. He communicates exclusively with those who visit him in person or by sending messages through couriers.
