Hantavirus Threat: Emergency Alert Level Three Established in the US
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have assigned a level three alert to the hantavirus outbreak, indicating a low threat level. According to ABC News, health officials in several states are monitoring travelers who returned from a cruise, as they may have been exposed to the hantavirus.
“Representatives from health departments in several states have reported that they are following up on certain passengers who returned to the US after being on the ship, in regard to possible hantavirus infection,” the publication states.
This alert level corresponds to standard response procedures, confirming that the public risk remains low. Nonetheless, U.S. authorities have intensified epidemiological monitoring. In response to the outbreak, the CDC has activated Emergency Operations Centers, which means forming a special working group to coordinate and support efforts to combat the spread of the virus.
