We Must Accept the World as It Is: Statement by the Canadian Prime Minister
During the VIII Summit of the European Political Community, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke about relations with Armenia, common values, and the establishment of peace in the region.
In his speech at the summit, Carney expressed satisfaction with the progress made in the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process. "I welcome the progress made in establishing peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and I welcome President Aliyev's presence in a virtual format," stated Mark Carney.
The head of the Canadian government emphasized the existing ties between Canada and Europe, as well as with Armenia. He noted, "I find it entirely appropriate that Canada became the first non-European country to join this format, because we are the most European of non-European countries. We have a convergence of history, values, and trust."
According to Carney, these ties are also expressed through Canada's Armenian community. He highlighted the importance of cooperation with Armenia within the framework of international missions, emphasizing, "We have the role of the only non-European participant in the European mission in Armenia."
The Prime Minister noted that the world is currently undergoing serious changes in technology, energy, trade, and geopolitics. "We must accept the world as it is, not as we would like to see it," he added. Carney stated that such meetings point out the best path forward.
