The Game of 'Mouse and Lion': Orban and Putin's Secret Deal Revealed
A secret deal with Moscow has come to light ahead of the elections. Hungary and Russia signed a cooperation program consisting of 12 points back in December, which has remained undisclosed for a long time. The document was coordinated between Hungary's Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto and Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, as reported by Politico.
The agreement covers various sectors, including energy, trade, education, and culture. The participation of Russian companies in projects carried out within Hungary, as well as the restoration of bilateral trade affected by European Union restrictions, have also been discussed.
Budapest is reportedly willing to expand the teaching of the Russian language, recognize diplomas, and develop educational and cultural exchange programs. These steps are viewed as a direction towards deepening cultural cooperation.
This information was published just days before the elections, when Prime Minister Viktor Orban faces significant political competition. Previously, Orban referred to himself as the Kremlin's 'mouse' and to Putin as the 'lion,' promising to do everything possible to assist Russia.
