It Was a Situation That Should Not Have Happened: Andreasian on Gzoyan's Dismissal
The issue of the reinstatement of Edite Gzoyan, the former director of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute, is not on the agenda. This was announced by the Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Armenia, Zhanna Andreasian, during a briefing in the National Assembly.
It was previously reported that Gzoyan had submitted her resignation. Later, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that this occurred at his direction due to Gzoyan presenting a book on the topic of Artsakh during the visit of U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance. According to the Prime Minister, this action was provocative.
The Minister noted that she highly values Gzoyan's academic work and emphasized that she can continue her career in the academic sector, including at the same institution. Meanwhile, Andreasian stated that the management issues that arose required appropriate solutions, and the situation has already been resolved.
“In this sense, I believe that our cooperation is by no means exhausted, but management is a specific sphere that implies specific responsibility, and the problems in the management sector must be resolved. For me, the issue is settled: there was a situation that should not have happened, and that situation has had its resolution,” the minister declared.
Andreasian also informed that she met with around 30 employees of the museum-institute to discuss the existing issues. She urged the employees to focus on their research activities, noting that no changes are expected in that regard. The minister added that in recent years, funding from the state for the institution has continuously increased.
