News on Electric Vehicle Property Tax from Babken Tunyan
Babken Tunyan, a member of the National Assembly from the "Civil Contract" faction and vice-chairman of the Economic Affairs Committee, has announced new information regarding property tax for electric vehicles.
In a live broadcast on his Facebook page, he specifically mentioned: "The issue is that the documents for electric vehicles often state a much higher power than the actual capacity these cars have. Many of our drivers go through expensive evaluations to obtain a certificate or document indicating that their vehicle's horsepower is lower, allowing them to pay a reduced property tax. We discussed this issue with the government, and I informed you last year that the government would present a relevant solution. I checked again with my colleagues yesterday, and I was told that a draft decision is already in circulation, and this decision will be adopted and published within the next month.
The second important point is that this will apply to property taxes for the year 2026, meaning it will not affect last year's property tax. The deadline for paying the property tax for 2026 is December 1. This means our beloved compatriots do not need to pay the property tax at this moment, and it is no longer necessary to pay the full amount for the current year's property tax when undergoing a technical inspection. This is also the result of a law I authored last year. So there is no rush, I ask you to be patient for another month, and you will be informed about the decision from the government," said MP Babken Tunyan.
