Azerbaijani President Aliyev: The Armenian Section of the Zangezur Corridor is Very Short
In an interview with France 24, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev addressed questions regarding Vice President Pence's visits to two countries, which announced a strategic partnership under which the U.S. will sell all types of weapons to Azerbaijan. Aliyev also referred to the so-called TRIPP project, a highway and railway connection that links Azerbaijan to its exclave Nakhchivan through Armenia. The journalist asked whether this is merely a dream or if the project will actually be realized and change the dynamics.
In response to the journalist's question, Aliyev stated, "I have no doubt that it will happen. One of the reasons is that, once again, the United States has played a decisive role in this process. The route, which will connect the two parts of Azerbaijan through Armenia and then towards the European continent, has been named after President Trump. I believe that this personal commitment from the U.S. president, along with the action plan of the U.S. government, indicates that TRIPP will be built. The distance is not that great—just over 40 kilometers. By the way, the railway that Azerbaijan is constructing from the capital to the border with Armenia is about 400 kilometers long. Additionally, about 200 kilometers of road will be restored in our Nakhchivan exclave territory. Thus, the Armenian section of what we call the Zangezur corridor is very short. And I am confident it will be completed.
Regarding Vice President Pence's visit, yes, it was a very important visit."
