Widespread Power Outages Occur in Ukraine
Widespread power outages are occurring in Ukraine. In Kyiv and Kharkiv, train services and escalators have been temporarily suspended due to the disconnection of power from the metro’s external power supply centers, according to authorities in both cities.
The power disconnection in Ukraine's electric grid has also caused outages in Chișinău and other cities in Moldova, leading to the halt of trolleybuses and disruption of mobile communication. This was reported on social media by Deputy Prime Minister Andrey Spivak.
According to Ukraine’s Energy Minister Denis Shmyhal, a technical failure has occurred, resulting in the simultaneous disconnection of a 400 kV line between Romania and Moldova and a 750 kV line between Western and Central Ukraine. This has led to a cascade disconnection in Ukraine’s electric grid and the activation of automatic protection systems at substations.
