Mirzoyan: Speaking on This Matter Would Be Direct Intervention in Armenia's Internal Affairs
“My dear and respected colleague Mr. Lavrov is misinformed; there is no criminal prosecution for political activity in Armenia,” said Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan during a Q&A session with the Parliament-Government, responding to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's statement.
According to Mirzoyan, criminal prosecution occurs in cases of political statements only if they contain threats or challenge Armenia's sovereignty. He added, “Even if that were the case, to speak or comment on it would be direct intervention in Armenia's internal affairs.”
It is noteworthy that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov commented on the situation surrounding the mayor of Gyumri, Vardan Ghukasyan. He stated that the Russian side is seriously concerned about the fact that the mayor was arrested for his political views.
