Moscow Records Coldest Night Since Winter Began
Last Friday, winter made another attempt to settle in the Moscow region. A cold atmospheric front crossing through the central parts of European Russia from north to south caused a sharp drop in temperatures. This was reported by Mikhail Leus, a leading specialist at the Phobos weather center, on his Telegram channel.
After a maximum temperature of +5°C in the morning, the temperature dropped below zero by 4 PM. According to the city's basic meteorological station, VDNH, the minimum temperature recorded on Saturday night in the capital was -5.8°C, marking the lowest temperature recorded in Moscow since the onset of the autumn-winter season. The previous record low was on November 16, when temperatures dropped to -4.3°C. Other meteorological stations in the city recorded slightly higher temperatures, with Butovo at -5.0°C and Balchug at -5.4°C. The minimum temperature in Moscow stood at -5.8°C.
The coldest spot in the Moscow region was Shakhovskaya, where the minimum temperature reached -6.6°C. Today, under strong northwesterly winds, the daytime temperature increase in the Moscow region will be quite minimal, reaching only 1-2°C. Moreover, Sunday and the following Monday will successively carry this winter's cold leadership. Tomorrow, nighttime temperatures in the capital will be -6 to -8°C, in the Moscow region -6 to -11°C, while Monday night will see temperatures drop to -9 to -11°C and -8 to -13°C, respectively. Daytime temperatures will hover around -5 to -7°C, which is 2-3°C lower than the climatic norm for mid-December.
