Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry: Appropriate Measures Will Be Taken If Russia Does Not Apologize
The official Russian state agency, TASS, has referred to the renaming of Stepanakert in the Azerbaijani city of Khankendi as a disrespectful attitude towards our country's territorial integrity and an insult. This statement was made by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Aikhan Hacizade.
“We expect an apology from the TASS news agency and a proper correction regarding this issue. We would like to inform the Russian side that we expect its official bodies to stop distorting Azerbaijani place names and naming our territories with names used by the former separatist so-called regime. If such incidents recur, this may lead to Azerbaijan naming numerous localities within Russian territory by their original names based on the principle of reciprocity,” said Aikhan Hacizade.
According to him, otherwise, actions will be taken against TASS's activities in Azerbaijan in accordance with the legislation.
