We Will Not Achieve Sustainable Peace: Azerbaijani Ambassador
Even if we sign a peace agreement tomorrow, we will not achieve sustainable peace because the main law of Armenia, the Constitution, contradicts it. This was stated by the Azerbaijani Ambassador to the USA, Khazar Ibrahim.
According to him, the amendment of Armenia's Constitution is "inevitable."
“We have completed the drafting of the peace agreement with Armenia. We hope to be able to sign it. However, as we always tell our Armenian counterparts, there are several important and multifaceted issues that need to be resolved before signing. One of those issues is the provision of Armenia's Constitution that still reflects territorial claims against Azerbaijan,” the ambassador stated.
He also noted that the second important issue that needs to be resolved is related to the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group.
“It exists only on paper and is symbolic in nature. The dissolution of the Minsk Group would show that the conflict has truly ended. In fact, it has ended, and we are moving towards a more peaceful region where there will be not only peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan but also development, prosperity, and stability,” he emphasized.
