Ejmiatsin Mayor Resigns
The Mayor of Ejmiatsin, Diana Gasparyan, has submitted her resignation.
"Dear residents of the Vagarshapat community, beloved fellow citizens,
It feels like a long time ago, on June 22, 2018, I was appointed by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan as the acting head of the Vagarshapat community, and from that day began a seven-year crazy journey filled with difficulties, trials, and obstacles, but at the same time valuable achievements, victories, and accomplishments.
The past seven years can be characterized as the most significant period of my life, which has greatly shaped me as an individual, a citizen, and a leader, a time when I gained and lost a lot. Regarding the achievements as the head of the community, I find it immodest to mention them myself, as I believe a leader should be spoken of by their deeds. During these seven years, our community transformed before our very eyes; immense work was accomplished, just by mentally transporting ourselves to pre-revolutionary Ejmiatsin.
As for losses, the greatest loss during these seven years has been the time I could have devoted to my family and loved ones, but due to my busy schedule, I dedicated it to work. I believe the moment has come for me to choose between dedicating all my time and energy to my newly formed family and young child, and fulfilling the heavy obligations of the mayor.
Dear fellow citizens, I am informing you that I have made a difficult decision to devote myself to a peaceful family life, the upbringing of my child, and the expansion of my family; therefore, I will soon resign from my mandate as a member of the Vagarshapat Council and will no longer hold the position of mayor.
I would like to express my gratitude to those who trusted and believed in me: you gave me the strength and desire to work, and also to my critics; you have multiplied that strength and desire a thousandfold. Every phase of life has a beginning and an end, and at this moment, I feel that it is time to conclude this most important phase of my life and to start anew.
I also want to thank my political team, the "Civil Contract" party, and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan for trusting that inexperienced girl back in 2018 and standing by my side throughout these seven years."
