Upcoming Magnetic Storms Expected
According to data from the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Institute of Space Research and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, small fluctuations in the magnetosphere are expected from May 11 to 13. Over the next three days, from May 11 to 13, no significant increase in geomagnetic activity should be anticipated.
Forecasts predict that during this period, minor fluctuations in the magnetic field are expected, with calm conditions prevailing for most hours of the day. The most unfavorable scenarios appear to be on May 11 and 13, when there is a 31% chance of magnetic storm formation according to the probability scheme. Additionally, the magnetosphere will be in a disturbed state 40% of the time.
Conversely, May 12 is expected to bring tranquility, with a 68% likelihood of magnetic calm and the chance of storms not exceeding 7%. According to Moscow time, peaks of activity will occur in the mornings and evenings of May 11 and 13, when the geomagnetic Kp index may reach 4 units, yet will not exceed the threshold of 5 units, which corresponds to the category of weak storms (G1).
