Why Iran Refuses to Negotiate on Nuclear Program
Iran has never left the negotiating table regarding its peaceful nuclear program, but it does not agree to negotiate under pressure and intimidation. This was stated by Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi after a meeting with Rafael Grossi, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
“Today, I had an important and candid conversation with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency. As a responsible party to the Non-Proliferation Treaty, we continue to fully cooperate with the agency. Differences can be resolved through cooperation and dialogue. We agreed to move forward with strong will and good intentions.
Iran has never left the negotiating table regarding its peaceful nuclear program. Now it is the European Union's turn. We are ready to negotiate based on our national interests and undeniable rights, but we do not agree to negotiate under pressure and intimidation,” he said.
Grossi also noted that Iran's nuclear facilities should never be subjected to military attacks. “I have clearly stated that nuclear facilities should not be targeted in attacks. Nuclear facilities should not become targets for military attacks, as this could lead to very serious radiological consequences,” he said, commenting on the IAEA's position regarding the threats posed to Iran's nuclear facilities by Israel.
