Georgian Greco-Roman Wrestler Nugzar Tsurtsumia Found Dead at 27
Georgian Greco-Roman wrestler Nugzar Tsurtsumia, the 2019 World Champion, has passed away at the age of 27. This information was announced on the social media page of the Georgian Wrestling Federation.
According to media reports, Tsurtsumia was found dead at his home. In 2019, he won the gold medal in the under 55 kg weight category at the World Championship held in Astana. That victory marked the first gold medal for the Georgian national team in Greco-Roman wrestling at the World Championship in the last 12 years.
After his victory, Tsurtsumia stated that at the beginning of every match, whether it was a European or World Championship, he thought of his deceased brother. Upon returning home, he took the world champion belt to his brother's grave.
