Four Political Forces Formed a United Platform of Democratic Forces, Issuing a Statement
A meeting took place between the leaders and representatives of the four opposition extra-parliamentary parties: the Republic Party, the For the Republic Party, the European Party, and the Christian Democratic Party.
In their statement, these four forces declared:
“The meeting participants expressed their determination to make efforts:
- for the establishment of Armenia's independence and sovereignty as well as European integration, which they see as strengthening Armenia’s Western policy and full membership in the European Union and NATO;
- to combat threats from Russia that endanger Armenia's sovereignty; these threats are manifested in current public processes that disrupt the country’s internal political stability;
- for the revitalization of Armenia’s internal political life, reforms, effective protection of human rights, and the fight against corruption, especially through the implementation of vetting in the judicial and law enforcement systems, which remain unresolved due to the authorities’ inconsistency and problematic staffing policies;
- for the successful conclusion of the peace treaty with Azerbaijan and the delimitation and demarcation process based on the principles of the Alma-Ata Declaration;
- for a just resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue and the return of the Armenian population of Artsakh through the application of international legal and political mechanisms, ensuring their security and rights;
They also reaffirmed their commitment to their previously expressed positions in joint statements, particularly the statements dated February 21, 2023 (Yerevan), September 30, 2023 (Yerevan), November 13, 2023 (Brussels), and March 28, 2024 (Yerevan). Furthermore, deepening the tradition of coherence and cooperation among themselves, they decided to establish a platform of democratic forces in Armenia.
In founding this platform, the leaders of the political forces participating in the event expressed their steadfast commitment to the Armenian people, aiming to create an environment conducive to effective communication among like-minded political and civil forces. This permanent “round table” will facilitate further convergence of approaches to the political and civil issues and challenges faced by the Republic of Armenia and its citizens, and will create the opportunity for defining a joint position on a broader range of issues and implementing collaborative actions.
The participating forces set no limitations on the further strengthening and deepening of cooperation among themselves. The Platform of Democratic Forces in Armenia is open for all like-minded political and civil forces and individuals to join.
