Council of Europe Calls on Baku to Implement ECtHR Ruling on Lieutenant Gurgen Margaryan's Murder Case
From March 12 to 14, during a meeting of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers, several decisions concerning Azerbaijan were adopted within the framework of monitoring the execution of judgments from the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).
One of the decisions relates to the case of "Makučyan and Minasyan v. Azerbaijan," which is connected to the murder of Armenian officer Gurgen Margaryan by Azerbaijani serviceman Ramil Safarov in Hungary. The Committee has called upon the Azerbaijani authorities to comply with the European Court's decisions.
The other decisions of the Committee pertain to the failure of the Azerbaijani authorities to fully implement ECtHR rulings regarding complaints from representatives of civil society in Azerbaijan. The Committee has demanded the restoration of their civil rights and freedoms.
