VIDEO. We Must Stop This Retreat and Say Enough: Archbishop Mikael Arakelyan
These stones have stood since the 7th century, they speak that this is Armenia: As a nation, we must stand guard over our borders, over these stones. This was stated by the Archbishop of Shirak Diocese, Mikael Arakelyan, at the Surb Astvatsatsin Church in Voskepar.
“The stones of Gandzasar, Amaras, the stones of the church in Shushi, on the other side Akhtamar, St. Karapet of Mush, we could count until dawn. And these stones today still stand, crying out, saying that this is Armenia. And we, who are living beings, must stand guard over these stones and say that yes, inanimate stone, you are right, this is Armenia. We leave these stones alone and search for our fate elsewhere, with other justifications,” he said.
Arakelyan noted that we have reached a limit where there is no room left: “We are becoming an object of laughter and mockery. In the 90s, we were searching as a victorious people, but today we hang our heads in sorrow. Somewhere this retreat must stop; let it stop here in Voskepar. We must put a stop to this retreat and say enough.”
